Minister of Works David Umahi has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, suggesting that the current surge in violence is connected to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a road project flag-off in Gombe State, Umahi questioned why insecurity tends to intensify whenever elections are approaching, and called for security matters to be kept free from political manipulation or exploitation.

He alleged that certain politicians are deliberately fueling instability in a bid to seize power in 2027, warning that such individuals would face divine consequences.

He stressed that anyone complicit in violence for political gain would ultimately be held accountable.

The minister, a former Ebonyi State governor, also expressed solidarity with President Bola Tinubu, urging Nigerians to remain supportive and prayerful, while assuring that the current wave of insecurity is temporary and that the country would eventually return to stability.
