Armed bandits have abducted a nine-year-old boy and destroyed two homes during a midnight raid on the Igbosi area of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The attackers struck at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, firing gunshots indiscriminately to drive residents out of their homes and into neighboring communities.
The victim, identified by police as Master Olaosebikan Victor, is the son of a local pastor, Isaac Olaosebikan. During the attack, his father escaped into the surrounding bush to save his life, leaving the child behind.
The boy was subsequently seized by the gunmen and taken to an unknown location.
A second resident, Joel Owalekan, reported that the same group forced their way into his home and caused significant damage before he also managed to flee to safety.
Ondo State Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi confirmed the incident and said the command has launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators.
State Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has directed all tactical teams, intelligence units, and security assets to prioritize the rescue of the child unharmed and the arrest of those responsible.
Personnel from the police command and the Amotekun Corps have been deployed to the area and are conducting coordinated search-and-rescue operations, combing surrounding forests and likely escape routes.
Investigations are underway and relevant exhibits have been recovered and documented.
The command said it is also working with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.
