A primary school teacher has been abducted by suspected terrorists along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku Road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, raising fresh alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the area.

The victim, Shina Adeoye, who teaches at Cooperative Primary School in Eruku, was reportedly seized on Thursday morning while travelling to work. Community sources said armed attackers intercepted him on the road and took him to an unknown location.

His whereabouts remained unknown at the time of reporting, with efforts to secure his release still ongoing.

Residents who spoke anonymously described the incident as another troubling indicator of worsening insecurity along the route, pointing to what they called a near-total absence of visible security presence on the road.

One resident said repeated appeals to authorities about the danger of the axis had gone unheeded, while another warned that armed groups appear to be exploiting the security gaps to carry out attacks on travellers with little resistance.

The abduction comes months after a deadly attack on Eruku community in November 2025, in which suspected terrorists killed at least two people and injured another.

The Kwara State Police Command had confirmed that incident and said security operatives and vigilantes responded, forcing the attackers to retreat into surrounding bushland.

Community members are now calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action before the situation deteriorates further.
