Tension flared in Nasarawa State as angry residents publicly burned campaign posters of Governor Abdullahi Sule alongside APC flags and party symbols in protest against his 2027 senatorial ambition.

Tension erupted in Kofan Kaura, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Friday as residents publicly burned campaign posters of Governor Abdullahi Sule ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, alongside APC flags and brooms a symbol of the ruling party.
The protesters expressed their anger through chants rejecting what they described as rigging and imposition, with video footage of the demonstration circulating online accompanied by the phrases "We reject rigging" and "We reject imposition."
The unrest follows Governor Sule's reversal of a previously stated public commitment not to seek any elective office after completing his tenure a pledge he had made on national television.
The governor, currently serving his second and final term, has since declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
He secured the APC senatorial primary for the district by a wide margin, polling 47,393 votes against rival Silas Agara's 2,915 votes.
However, the decisive primary victory has done little to quell discontent among some residents, who appear opposed to his continued political ambitions after going back on his earlier word.
