An NDC senatorial aspirant in Edo South, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinwa, has expressed deep regret over his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, describing the move as going from the frying pan into the fire.

Speaking on a television programme on Friday, the former House of Representatives member claimed he won the senatorial primary election but is now being denied a place on the ballot.

He described the primary process as chaotic and unlike anything he had experienced in either the APC or the PDP, noting that as of June 5, no election date had been announced despite the primary having been conducted on May 29.

Agbonayinwa also leveled a serious allegation against NDC national leader Senator Seriake Dickson, whom he described as a long-standing friend and colleague.

According to him, it was Dickson who personally encouraged him to contest the senatorial seat under the NDC, inviting him to his home and suggesting he pursue the Senate rather than the House of Representatives.

Agbonayinwa said he consulted with his supporters, accepted the offer, and purchased the nomination forms based on that conversation.

However, he said that at a meeting on Friday morning, Dickson denied ever having that conversation with him a development he described as deeply shocking and disappointing, given the closeness of their relationship and the trust he had placed in the NDC leader's word.
