Former Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission chairman Sam Amadi has declared that Nigerians should not trust the Independent National Electoral Commission's voter registration system, citing concerns about the integrity of the electoral body's processes.

Speaking in a television interview on Friday, Amadi raised alarm over INEC's failure to electronically transmit election results, which he argued would have ensured transparency in the electoral process.

He questioned whether the malfunction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System was a genuine technical failure or a deliberate act of internal sabotage to prevent result transmission.

Amadi argued that the first priority of any opposition political party should be to demand an independent forensic audit of INEC, given the unresolved questions surrounding the system's failure.

He noted that on the day of the election in question, INEC had previously test-run its systems and publicly declared readiness to transmit results electronically, only to announce a technical glitch on election day without providing any verifiable evidence or explanation for the failure.

He maintained that under such circumstances, placing trust in INEC's voter register would be misguided, describing the current situation as one where the integrity of the system has been compromised.
