A public affairs analyst, David Matthew, has said the Federal Government’s decision to settle outstanding debts owed to more than 1,245 indigenous contractors under Nigeria could trigger wider economic relief for citizens, with ripple effects expected across jobs, small businesses, and infrastructure delivery.

A public affairs analyst and civil society advocate, David Matthew, has said the Federal Government's approval of debt payments to over 1,245 indigenous contractors will have a positive trickle-down effect on ordinary Nigerians.

Matthew, in a statement issued on Tuesday, was reacting to the approval of debt payments to contractors by the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele.

He described the development as a major boost for the local economy and a demonstration of responsible economic management, adding that the payments would generate positive ripple effects across various sectors, creating jobs, supporting household incomes, and accelerating the completion of critical infrastructure projects.

"The release of these funds is ultimately good news for ordinary Nigerians because when contractors are paid, workers receive their salaries, suppliers receive payment for services rendered, projects move forward, and economic activities expand.

This intervention will undoubtedly contribute to growth, stability and renewed confidence in the economy," he said.

Matthew urged the Federal Government to sustain the momentum by ensuring the prompt settlement of future obligations while continuing reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business and strengthening the productive capacity of local enterprises.
