The att@ck occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when more than 10 armed individuals were driven to the area and stormed the settlement through both entrances, opening fire on residents at multiple locations before fleeing in the same vehicle.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that 12 people d+ed as a result of the att@ck.

Eight adult males and three adult females were pronounced d+ad at the scene, while one additional victim d+ed in hospital.

The incident took place in the Cleveland area, approximately six kilometres east of the Johannesburg city centre.

Nevhuhulwi said the motive for the att@ck had not yet been established and no arr£sts had been made as of the time of reporting.

The latest mass sh00ting is a grim reminder of South Africa's persistent struggle with violent crime, where more than 60 h0micides are recorded on average each day.

The country continues to grapple with the widespread availability of both legal and illegal firearms, with sh00tings frequently linked to gang rivalry and competition among informal businesses.
