A swift security response in Kwara State has led to the arrest of four suspected armed robbers following a violent attack on commuters along the Ali Weree Camp axis in Ifelodun.

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arr£st of four suspected robbers and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle following a violent att@ck on two commuters along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The command's spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred on June 4, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m., when armed men att@cked two commuters returning from a market.
According to Ejire-Adeyemi, the assailants, armed with sticks and cutlasses, inflicted injuries on the victims before seizing their motorcycle and fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving the report, operatives launched a coordinated operation alongside personnel of the National Forest Security Service, leading to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arr£st of four suspects identified as Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the suspects acted together during the robbery.
The spokesperson further revealed that investigations uncovered the involvement of another suspect, identified simply as Sumo, believed to be the gang leader and currently at large.
She added that tactical and intelligence-driven efforts have been intensified to apprehend him and recover any weapons in his possession.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi commended the swift response of operatives and their collaboration with the National Forest Security Service, describing the operation as a reflection of the command's crime-fighting commitment.
"The successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspects reflects the operational directives and crime-fighting vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing and enhancing public safety across the country," he said.
The command assured residents that the arr£sted suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang leader remain ongoing.
