The Edo State Government has ordered the immediate closure of some schools after the State Security Service (SSS) reportedly uncovered a plot to kidn@p students.

According to reports, the SSS received intelligence that suspected kidn@ppers were allegedly planning a mass abduction of students in Edo North.

The information came after security officials reportedly intercepted conversations between suspects discussing plans to target schools.

The government subsequently shut down three schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School to protect students and staff.

Security reports also indicated that a 25-year-old suspect was arrested after allegedly monitoring the area around Makeke Secondary School, raising concerns that preparations for an att@ck may have already begun.

The Ministry of Education said the closure is temporary while security agencies work to neutralise the threat. Students sitting WAEC examinations will however be allowed to continue under tighter security arrangements.
