Tunisia have responded to a 5-1 World Cup thrashing by Sweden by sacking coach Sabri Lamouchi and replacing him with Frenchman Hervé Renard, the federation announced on national television on Monday.

Lamouchi becomes the first coach in World Cup history to be dismissed after just a single match.

Renard, known for guiding Saudi Arabia to a shock win over eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has since gone on to coach the France women's national team.

According to Tunisia's public broadcaster, federation president Moez Nassari confirmed that an official agreement had been reached with Renard to take charge of the national team through the remainder of the 2026 World Cup.

Lamouchi, 54, had only taken over the role in January and managed just one win in five matches in charge, a 1-0 victory over Haiti.

The heavy defeat to Sweden leaves Tunisia facing a difficult path to the knockout stage, with the team set to face Japan in their next Group F fixture on Saturday before taking on the Netherlands.
