Maverick singer Olawale Olofooro, popularly known as Brymo, has declared that it is high time Nigeria began considering an Igbo presidency.

The singer, who faced backlash during the 2023 presidential campaign over remarks perceived as opposing an Igbo presidency, said it is time for Nigerians to move past old grievances and embrace reconciliation.

He, however, cautioned that the insecurity currently plaguing the South-east could pose a challenge to the realisation of an Igbo presidency, alleging that several groups across Nigeria have weaponised insecurity as a bargaining tool for political power.

Brymo also commended President Bola Tinubu, claiming credit for preventing the South-west security outfit, Amotekun, from evolving into a separatist movement.

Speaking in a recent interview, Brymo argued that the time had come for Nigeria to seriously consider an Igbo presidency, urging citizens to let go of the past, reconcile their differences, and unite as a nation.

He questioned, however, how this could be achieved if the South-east continued sliding into chaos, alleging that whenever any group in the country sought the presidency, militancy tended to follow, framing it as a pattern where the pursuit of power is accompanied by kidn@pping and insecurity.

He further explained that one of the reasons he admires President Tinubu is that he prevented Amotekun from gaining full momentum, suggesting that had the Yoruba's Amotekun, South-eastern insecurity, Boko Haram, and South-south militancy all been simultaneously active, the unity of the country itself would have been in serious jeopardy.
