A strong message has emerged from Zamfara as the state leadership shifts focus from election politics to what democracy delivers in everyday life.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has said that democracy should be measured by more than just the conduct of elections, emphasizing that its true value lies in tangible benefits such as schools, healthcare, food security, jobs, shelter, and overall security for citizens.
Speaking in Gusau during the state's Democracy Day anniversary celebration, the governor pledged to prioritize security and other dividends of democratic governance for the benefit of all residents of Zamfara State.
He argued that genuine democracy should translate into improved roads, hospitals, schools, water supply, food availability, security, employment opportunities, justice, and equal access for all citizens.
Governor Lawal described his administration's Rescue Mission Agenda as a people-centred initiative, noting that it has driven sustained investment in security infrastructure and other capital projects across all 14 local government areas of the state.
Additionally, he insisted that the state belongs to its people and warned that no criminal organization would be allowed to take Zamfara towns captive.
He declared that Zamfara belonged to its people and that he would take all necessary steps to ensure that the state is free of criminal elements.
"Our message has not changed at all. No criminal organization would be allowed to hold our villages captive because Zamfara belongs to its people," he declared.
The governor observed the commemoration of Democracy Day for the first time since taking office.
The opening of a brand-new arena with 700 seats in the state capital was one of the event's main highlights.
