The Federal Government has approved a nationwide digital addressing system aimed at transforming how locations are identified across the country.

In order to enhance security operations, emergency response, public service delivery, and economic activities throughout Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced intentions to implement a statewide digital postcode system.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the plan under the National Digital Addressing Policy, according to Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, who spoke at the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System Workshop in Abuja.
He clarified that each site in the nation will receive a distinct, verifiable digital address.
According to Tijani, the rollout's initial phase is set to start in October, and a number of states are anticipated to be covered by the end of the year.
He claims that during emergencies and security operations, the system will facilitate quicker coordination, enhance accountability, and guarantee more precise answers.
The platform would help public safety, logistics, e-commerce, national planning, and government service delivery, he said, in addition to postal services.
As part of the government's larger digital economy goal, the minister continued, efforts are being made to integrate the system with public institutions.
