The Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the Ekiti State governorship election, Mustapha Fayoade, has given assurances of adequate security for voters, electoral officials and other stakeholders before, during and after Saturday's poll.

Fayoade said the Nigeria Police Force, working alongside other security agencies, had put in place strong security measures, including sufficient deployment of personnel and logistics.

The Supervising DIG gave this assurance on Thursday evening in Ado Ekiti, during a meeting with police officers and other security stakeholders ahead of the election.

He charged security personnel deployed for the exercise to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and respect for the rule of law while carrying out their duties.

He also emphasised the need for synergy, collaboration and mutual support among the various security agencies involved in election security operations, and called on the public, political actors and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with security agencies, remain law-abiding and help foster a peaceful electoral atmosphere.

Fayoade is being supported in the assignment by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Dr Olanrewaju Ogunlowo.

Both senior officers were deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to oversee and coordinate security arrangements for the election, with the aim of ensuring a peaceful, credible and violence-free process.

Reaffirming the police's readiness for the poll, the Supervising DIG said adequate security arrangements were in place to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials and election materials throughout the election period.

Earlier, the Ekiti State Election Commissioner of Police, Dr Abayomi Shogunle, who took up the role two days ago, had assured residents that the police had established a multi-layered security framework to ensure the election in the state proceeds smoothly.
