Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has drawn considerable criticism after making a contentious statement about hip-hop.

The 'Declan Rice' artiste reignited controversy by repeating Wizkid's earlier assertion that hip-hop music has lost its relevance.

While responding to a list of Nigerian artists with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify, shared on social media, Odumodublvck boldly asserted that "Hip Hop is dead," pointing to the glaring absence of Nigerian rappers from the rankings.

His statement prompted mixed reactions, with many critics accusing him of disrespecting the genre while arguing that hip-hop remains highly relevant outside Nigeria.

Despite Nigeria having both established and emerging rappers, hip-hop artists are noticeably absent from the current list of Nigerian artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, with singers dominating the entire top 10.

Burna Boy tops the list with 40.68 million listeners, followed closely by Tems with 40.64 million listeners.

Rema holds the third position with 29.43 million listeners, while Ayra Starr and Wizkid occupy the fourth and fifth spots with 16.84 and 16.81 million listeners respectively.

Omah Lay (11.24 million), Davido (10.83 million), CKay (10.71 million), Fireboy DML (9.23 million) and Asake (8.69 million) round out the top 10.
