The Nigerian Army Armour School in Bauchi has announced plans to conduct a military training exercise codenamed Exercise Thunder Strike 2026, aimed at improving the operational readiness of its personnel.

According to a statement signed by Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Major Adekunle Adeyemi, a firepower demonstration for cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy will take place on June 25, 2026, at the Victor Kure Armour Range along the Bauchi–Jos Road, with activities also scheduled around Zaranda Hill and Geji Village in Bauchi Local Government Area.

The main training exercise will run from June 29 to July 2, 2026, covering Alkaleri Local Government Area in Bauchi State and a number of other locations including Bara in Gombe State, Bashar and Dengi in Plateau State, and Karim and Muri in Taraba State.

Residents have been advised to expect increased movement of troops, armoured vehicles, military equipment and low-flying aircraft during the exercise period.

The Army urged farmers, herders and other members of the public not to panic at the sound of gunfire, assuring that all necessary safety measures have been put in place, and advised people to stay clear of designated exercise areas throughout the training period.

The exercise will conclude on July 2 with a live firepower display involving Armoured Fighting Vehicles.

The Army also called on media organisations to assist in creating public awareness and encouraging cooperation from communities in the affected areas.
