A security operative has been widely praised after returning $9,100 that a customer accidentally left behind at a bank branch in Marina, Lagos.

Adebanjo Samuel, who works with Proton Security Service Limited, was on duty at a First City Monument Bank branch on May 25, 2026, when he found the money and returned it to its rightful owner.

His employer described the act as a reflection of the discipline, professionalism and ethical values expected of its personnel, and announced plans to host a special civic reception in his honour, to be attended by colleagues, family members, industry stakeholders and media representatives.

Managing Director Odebunmi Adekunmi said Adebanjo's conduct exemplifies the organisation's core values, noting that true professionalism means doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

Speaking on the recognition, Adebanjo said his decision was guided by principle rather than the sum involved, adding that honesty and integrity were values instilled in him from a young age that he would never compromise.

The company's Director of Business Development and Strategy, Olabisi Familusi, said the gesture carries significance beyond individual recognition, sending a positive message about integrity and reinforcing public trust in Nigeria's private security industry.
