The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for six new undergraduate programmes at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), taking effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval followed a resource assessment visit by the commission to evaluate the university's preparedness, including the availability of necessary human and material resources for the proposed courses.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the university's Acting Head of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide.
The newly approved full-time programmes are Bachelor of Science degrees in Geophysics, Public Health, Biotechnology, Science Laboratory Technology, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Clothing and Textile.
According to the statement, the NUC's Executive Secretary conveyed the approval in a letter addressed to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, following a thorough review of the resource assessment outcome.
The university described the development as a significant milestone in its ongoing effort to broaden its academic offerings, strengthen manpower development, and respond to emerging national and global priorities in science, technology, health, and sustainable development.
FUNAAB added that the addition of the six programmes further reinforces its standing as an institution committed to academic excellence, innovation, and the training of skilled graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development across critical sectors.
