England and Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood has said yes after a romantic seaside proposal that turned a quiet getaway into a moment of celebration.

England and Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood has announced her engagement to childhood sweetheart Jack O'Connell, a former Sheffield United footballer.
The 32-year-old Lionesses star shared the news on social media on Wednesday, revealing that O'Connell proposed during a holiday by the sea.
The proposal was marked by a lit-up "Marry Me" sign, a romantic seaside dinner accompanied by live music, and a fireworks display.
Greenwood, dressed in a black summer dress and kitten heels, captioned her post with the date of the proposal June 21, 2026.
The couple, who have been together since meeting at sixth-form college in Merseyside, share a mutual passion for football even away from the pitch.
O'Connell retired from the sport in 2023, but Greenwood has previously noted that the pair spend much of their time at home watching and analysing matches.
Greenwood's England teammates were quick to celebrate the news in the comments, with Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, and Jill Scott among those offering congratulations.
The engagement comes months after her international teammate Ella Toone announced her own engagement to Joe Bunney, who proposed during a holiday in Ibiza, Spain, in August 2025 shortly after England's victory at the 2025 Euros.
Toone shared photographs from the moment, which featured an archway of red roses and was made all the more touching by the presence of Bunney's five-year-old son Arlo, who held the engagement ring and a red rose during the proposal.
