Nigeria's ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu appointed him as ambassador-designate to four countries in Central and South America simultaneously.
Omokri made the claim in a post on his social media page following discussions surrounding diplomatic appointments recently announced by the Federal Government, explaining that his case differs significantly from that of other appointees due to the nature of the posting.
According to him, serving concurrently across four countries means that approvals must be secured from multiple foreign governments before the process can be concluded, making his appointment subject to additional diplomatic procedures.
"His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, chose to nominate me as an Ambassador to serve concurrently in four countries in Central and South America.
Therefore, the processes involved for me, as an envoy to four different nations with four different Presidents, differ from those of others," he wrote.
His comments came in response to a social media user identified as Kachi, who appeared to draw comparisons between his appointment timeline and that of another ambassadorial appointee, Professor Yakubu.
Omokri dismissed any suggestion of rivalry, stating that he does not subscribe to a mindset centred on comparing his personal progress with that of others.
