The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a notorious cultists' hideout along Nwaziki Street, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, recovering AK-47 magazines, live ammunition, and other police-related items during the operation.

The Command's spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the raid was carried out by operatives attached to the IGP Violent Crime Response Unit on June 20.

According to Ikenga, two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and other police-related items were recovered during the sustained raid on the suspected cultists' den.

No suspect was arrested at the scene, as the occupants fled upon sighting the operatives.

Investigations have since commenced to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered items, and unravel any criminal network linked to the hideout.

"The Police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada.

Although no suspect was arrested at the scene, the operatives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits, and unravel any criminal network linked to the items recovered," he said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their proactive intelligence-led policing efforts and reaffirmed the command's resolve to sustain aggressive raids against criminal elements and their enclaves across the state.
