Kogi Teacher Dies After Alleged Attack by Father Over Child Discipline

A primary school teacher in Kogi State has died days after she was allegedly assaulted by a parent who confronted her over disciplinary action taken against his child.

A 30-year-old teacher in Kogi State has d!ed days after she was allegedly ass@ulted by an angry father who reportedly confronted her for disciplining his child, prompting the police to launch a culpable homicide investigation and a manhunt for the suspects.

The deceased, Maryam Usman, was a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Okpo District of Olamaboro Local Government Area.

According to the Kogi State Police Command, the incident occurred on June 18 when one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly stormed the school after the teacher disciplined one of his children.

Police said the trio allegedly att@cked Usman, leaving her with serious injuries.

She was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo, where she d!ed on June 25 while receiving treatment.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, said the case had been reported to the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters as culpable homicide.

She explained that preliminary investigation revealed that on June 18, 2026, Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, where they ass@ulted the staff member, Maryam Usman, aged 30, for disciplining a pupil.

The police spokesperson said officers visited the scene and the deceased's residence after receiving the report and completed the necessary documentation.

She added that arrangements were being made to move the body to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for medical examination and an autopsy.

According to the police, the suspects fled before officers arrived, and efforts are underway to track them down, with the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation upon their arrest.

The incident has triggered outrage among residents and renewed concerns over the safety of teachers carrying out disciplinary responsibilities in schools.

The tragedy comes amid wider concerns over security in Kogi State.
