The Police Command in Sokoto State has successfully repelled two separate b@ndit att@cks in Tureta Local Government Area, recovering a total of 137 rustled cows during coordinated security operations.

A news agency reports that the incidents took place in Fura Kirke and Bimasa villages on Sunday and Tuesday respectively.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, disclosed this in a statement issued in Sokoto.

According to Rufai, the first operation was triggered by a distress call received on June 28, reporting that heavily armed b@ndits had invaded Fura Kirke Village, shooting sporadically and making away with residents' livestock.

He said the command promptly mobilised all its tactical units, including the anti-kidn@pping unit and the Village Crime Response Centre, to respond to the att@ck.

Operatives moved to block all exit routes from the village and engaged the b@ndits in a fierce gun battle, eventually overpowering them and forcing them to flee through the Gizazza Forest, abandoning the animals they had rustled.

Rufai said 65 rustled cows were recovered and returned to their rightful owners, with no civilian or security personnel injured during the operation.

He further disclosed that on June 30, the command received another distress call reporting a fresh att@ck by b@ndits on Bimasa Village, also within Tureta LGA, during which the assailants fired indiscriminately and made away with domestic animals.

He said the Anti-Kidn@pping Unit, backed by other tactical teams, was swiftly deployed and succeeded in intercepting the fleeing b@ndits.

The operatives engaged them in a sustained gun duel, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest and abandon the stolen livestock.

All 72 rustled cows were recovered in this operation, with no casualties recorded among security personnel.

Rufai said the Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their courage, professionalism and swift response, describing the operations as evidence of the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He added that the Commissioner also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible intelligence to strengthen ongoing efforts to tackle b@nditry and other criminal activities in the state.
