Fourth Batch of Evacuated Nigerians Arrives From South Africa Amid Xenophobic Tensions

A new group of Nigerian returnees has arrived in Lagos following ongoing evacuation efforts triggered by rising xenophobic tensions in South Africa.

The fourth batch of willing Nigerians evacuated from South Africa amid ongoing xen0phobic att@cks has arrived back in the country, with the aircraft conveying the evacuees touching down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday.

This follows an announcement by the Federal Government on Thursday that the fourth evacuation flight for Nigerians voluntarily returning from South Africa would depart Johannesburg at midnight that day, carrying 271 returnees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the flight, operated by a Nigerian carrier, was expected to arrive at the Lagos airport on Friday, July 3, 2026.

The first batch of evacuees arrived in Nigeria on June 9, comprising 258 people, while the second batch consisted of 66 willing returnees and the third batch numbered 269.

An online news platform reports that scores of South African citizens took to the streets on June 30 demanding that foreigners leave the country.
