A man's post-procedure update has gone viral after revealing an unexpected stage of his recovery, leaving many social media users stunned by the dramatic change in his appearance.

A viral video has sparked widespread reactions online after a man shared footage of the aftermath of what he described as a hair transplant procedure, showing significant swelling around his face and eyes.

In the clip, captioned to reference the swelling worsening, the man told viewers that the condition had affected his eyesight, explaining in an update that although the swelling had shifted from his forehead down to the area around his eyes.

His vision had been reduced to roughly one to two per cent, adding that he could barely see and jokingly acknowledged how unusual he looked.

The video quickly drew attention online, with many viewers expressing concern over his condition while others responded with humour.

Several users explained that swelling around the forehead and eyelids is a known side effect of hair transplants, caused by fluid injected into the scalp during the procedure.

Reacting to the video, one user said they would rather remain bald than risk losing their sight. Another remarked that the man had turned what appeared to be a medical emergency into content, while expressing hope that he would recover, noting that such swelling after a transplant is no small matter.

Another user, describing themselves as a nurse, offered a more detailed explanation, noting that the fluid doctors inject into the scalp to numb it during the procedure often travels downward due to gravity, moving from the forehead to the thinner, looser skin around the eyelids, which swells easily as a result.

The user explained that such swelling typically peaks between the second and fourth day before resolving on its own, and recommended sleeping with the head elevated, applying cold compresses to the forehead while avoiding the graft area.

And avoiding bending or exercise during recovery, while cautioning that pain, fever or eye discharge would warrant medical attention rather than being dismissed as normal puffiness.

Another user joked that a wig might have been a safer alternative to the procedure.
