A 32-year-old man who admitted to using a razor blade to strike his wife during a domestic argument was given an effective 12-month prison sentence by a Bindura Magistrates' Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) claims that an altercation over accusations of adultery led to the incident on June 21, 2026, at a farm in Bindura.

The man reportedly grabbed his 42-year-old wife's genital area and used a razor blade to cut a portion of it after pretending to want to have an intimate relationship, the prosecution told the court.

After the attack, the victim allegedly experienced severe bleeding.

Later, the man gave her water to wash herself while she bled, according to the NPAZ. Under Zimbabwe's Domestic Violence Act, the accused entered a guilty plea to domestic violence involving physical abuse.

He was originally given an 18-month prison sentence, but the court suspended six months of that sentence for five years in exchange for good behavior, leaving him with an effective 12-month sentence.

In response to the ruling, the NPAZ stated that the legal system is still dedicated to safeguarding victims of gender-based violence and making sure perpetrators are held responsible for their acts.
