The son of a popular refrigerator and air-conditioner technician, Idris Abiodun, has narrated how his father was allegedly k!lled at the weekend by suspected armed r0bbers while trying to protect his family during an att@ck on their home in Akure, Ondo State.
His son, AbdulFatai, said his 47-year-old father was sh0t d£ad after confronting the armed r0bbers who invaded their residence in the Shagari area of Akure.
He explained that the r0bbers had already att@cked two other houses before storming their home around 1 a.m.
According to him, the armed r0bbers entered their street around 1 a.m. and began r0bbing residents, having already r0bbed about two other houses before arriving at their home in full force.
He said his father did not want to leave anything to chance and therefore confronted one of the r0bbers in an effort to defend the family, unaware that there were about three or four of them and that they were heavily armed.
He narrated that they att@cked his father with axes and cutlasses before one of them produced a gun and sh0t him, after which the r0bbers fled immediately once he collapsed.
The family rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost too much blood, and doctors later confirmed him d£ad.
The k!lling of the father of five has sparked outrage among residents of the community, with family members and friends calling on security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
A close friend of the deceased, identified simply as Hakeem, described the k!lling as painful, noting that Abiodun was widely respected for his generosity and willingness to support others.
He said the deceased was a technician who repaired freezers and air conditioners, describing his death as a painful loss to all who knew him and recalling that he was the type of person who always encouraged others to succeed.
The deceased's widow, Taibat, described her husband as a hardworking, peaceful, and responsible family man, and appealed to the Ondo State Government and security agencies to ensure that justice is served.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the r0bbery and k!lling.
The Police Public Relations Officer said the suspect is currently assisting investigators, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
He assured the bereaved family and residents that all those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
