Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by Islamic State West Africa Province t3rrorists across Borno State.
The att@cks occurred in the early hours of Friday, forcing the t3rrorists into a disorderly retreat.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, on Friday.
Goni said the t3rrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross axis between 12:20am and 2:30am, in a bid to gain access into the Maiduguri metropolis.
He said troops, relying on early warning mechanisms, swiftly detected the advancing t3rrorists and engaged them from multiple axes with accurate firepower, decisively frustrating all attempts to infiltrate.
Goni added that troops also thwarted separate infiltration attempts by the t3rrorists at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai Local Government Area.
He said a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device while pursuing fleeing t3rrorists at Miringa, but no casualties were recorded among the troops, adding that the situation remains stable.
According to the statement, the t3rrorists, overwhelmed by the troops' swift tactical manoeuvre, abandoned their mission and retreated in confusion across all axes.
He said troops were conducting clearance and exploitation operations to pursue the fleeing t3rrorists, consolidate operational gains, and dominate the area to prevent further threats to nearby communities.
Goni said Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to sustaining aggressive offensive operations against t3rrorists in the North-East, stressing that the operation remains steadfast in denying t3rrorists freedom of action and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the region.
The military spokesman urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
