Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has spoken about the financial responsibilities many successful Africans carry toward their extended families.

According to Mikel, in many African societies, financial success often comes with expectations that go far beyond supporting one's immediate household, as siblings, extended relatives, and even in-laws may come to depend on a person once they achieve wealth.

Using Victor Osimhen as an example, Mikel suggested that the striker experiences similar pressures.

Adding that when successful individuals are no longer able or willing to provide financial assistance, they are often viewed negatively by those who had come to rely on them.

He explained that in Africa, wealth is often seen as belonging not just to the individual but to the entire family depending on them, noting that siblings and their in-laws often look up to the successful person for support.

He said Osimhen faces the same reality, stressing that the moment such individuals stop helping, they are often perceived as the villain.

In Africa, when you make money, it’s not just yours it belongs to the whole family depending on you. Your siblings, their in-laws, everyone depends on you. Victor Osimhen faces the same thing. The moment you stop helping, you become the bad guy”😭
