The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man suspected of attempting to supply ammunition and other items to b@ndits operating within parts of the state.

The command's spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, explaining that the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence provided by a resident.

He identified the suspect as Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Bichi Division, acting on a tip-off about a man dressed in what appeared to be military attire in Rimaye Village, Bichi Local Government Area, intercepted the suspect with the assistance of community members.

A search of his bag led to the recovery of an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a pair of desert boots, as well as personal identification and bank cards.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect admitted travelling to the area to deliver the recovered items to b@ndits operating in the bush.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents of the Rimawa community for supplying the information that led to the arrest, describing it as proof of the value of community partnership in tackling crime.

"This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility," he said.

The command noted that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network. It added that he would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The police further appealed to residents to continue sharing credible information with security agencies to support ongoing efforts to enhance public safety across the state.
