Rebecca Kambai, a 19-year-old 500-level student at the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, was killed by an unidentified hit-and-run driver.

Rebecca had just returned home from school for the holidays when she tragically died in the incident on Tuesday night, according to a family source.

The source claims that Rebecca made arrangements with her friends to have some of her items transported to her from Azare after she left them at school.

It was also revealed that Rebecca was picked up by one of her brothers on a motorcycle after the driver delivering the goods called her to pick them up at the Bauchi motor park adjacent to the Awala Hotel.

Rebecca decided to ride the motorcycle after gathering the things and returning home.

A Sharon minibus struck the motorcyclist as they were going to enter their neighborhood in the New GRA after arriving at the Police Officers' Mess on Bauchi-Jos Road.

Rebecca was reported to have hit her head on the pavement, breaking her skull and dying instantly, while her brother was hurt.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps' (FRSC) RS12.1 Bauchi Sector Command's First Information Report (FIR), the collision happened on July 14, 2026, at 5:15 p.m.

The incident was reported at 5:20 p.m., and it took 10 minutes for FRSC staff to respond, arriving at the scene at 5:30 p.m.

The collision happened in front of the Police Officers' Mess on Bauchi-Jos Road.

A Jincheng motorcycle registered TFB-38-QB, which was being utilized for private purposes, was involved in the collision.

One adult male and one adult female were engaged in the collision, according to the FIR. The female perished, and the male was injured.

One motorcycle, one women's hair stretcher, and one pair of shoes were among the items found at the scene.

While the deceased's remains were placed in the hospital's mortuary, the injured victim was transported to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for medical care. MI III CT Galadima was in charge of the rescue effort.

Mrs. Doris Kambai, Rebecca's mother, responded to the occurrence by saying, "I am the mother of Rebecca, whom we just lost yesterday."

The entire family is genuinely grieving during this time. My final child, my daughter, will be sorely missed.

"She was actually my favorite, and the siblings even know that," she said. She was a lot like me, and I've been really proud of her.

She was such a bright and intellectual young woman. It was a true blessing that she entered my life.

"So many things changed since she came into my life, and I am so grateful for that," the bereaved mother continued.

Well, there's nothing we can do about it. God has both given and taken away. May His name always be honored.

She further said, “I want to appreciate everyone who has rallied around me throughout this period of grief.

I lack words to express my gratitude. It is my prayer that the Lord will reward each one of them at the point of their needs.

In their own days of sorrow, may they meet people who will stand by them and comfort them. I am so grateful. Thank you so much.”
