Security forces have averted a potential tragedy after discovering a hidden explosive in a farming area of Sambisa Forest.

Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison, Operation HADIN KAI, have discovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, planted by suspected t3rrorists in a farming area of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a post on X, saying the device was discovered at around 9:50 a.m. on July 15 during a fighting patrol in the Dagari area of the Sambisa Forest in Bama Local Government Area.
According to him, the explosive had been buried by suspected t3rrorists, apparently intended to target troops or unsuspecting civilians, including farmers returning to their farmlands.
He said troops promptly secured the area and successfully neutralised the device on-site in line with standard explosive ordnance disposal procedures, eliminating the threat without any incident.
He added that the operation forms part of ongoing clearance and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device, C-IED, efforts under Operation HADIN KAI aimed at making liberated communities and farming areas safe for civilian use, noting that troops have continued aggressive patrols and route clearance operations across the North-East to detect and neutralise explosive threats planted by t3rrorists.
