The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has elected four new bishops to head dioceses across the country, following the conclusion of the Episcopal Synod at the Advance Episcopal Consultation in Port Harcourt.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, at the close of the synod's deliberations, held at Our Saviour's Chapel, University of Port Harcourt.

It was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Communications of the Church of Nigeria, Ven. Raphael A. Aderinwale.

The bishops-elect were named as Ven. Dr Godwin Tersoo Simon Yakela for the Diocese of Makurdi, Ven. Dr Kingsley Ogbonda for the Diocese of Uyo, Ven. Dr Julius Oyediran for the Diocese of Ekiti Oke, and Ven. Dr Olayemi Fatusi for Awori Diocese.

Speaking on the outcome, the Primate explained that the elections were concluded following prayerful deliberations by the bishops during the Episcopal Synod.

He further disclosed that the bishops-elect would be consecrated during the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, scheduled to hold in the Diocese of Remo in September.

The elections mark the conclusion of the church's process of selecting new episcopal leaders for the four dioceses.

According to the church, the newly elected bishops will take on responsibility for the spiritual oversight of their respective dioceses, the advancement of evangelism, and the strengthening of the Anglican Communion within their jurisdictions.

The Primate urged members of the church to continually uphold the bishops-elect in prayer, asking God to grant them wisdom, strength, good health, humility, and the grace needed to faithfully discharge the responsibilities of the episcopal office to His glory.
