An 18-year-old has died at a popular music festival in the UK just weeks after celebrating her birthday.

Lucy Halpin died in hospital after emergency services were called to the Tonnau Festival in North Wales at 1.45am on Saturday morning.

The cause of her death remains unclear, with police treating it as "unexpected" while investigations continue.

Lucy's workplace, Breeze Hill Bar, Eatery & Hotel, paid tribute to her, describing themselves as a "broken pub full of broken hearts" following her death just weeks after she turned 18.

The establishment said Lucy was more than just a staff member but part of their extended family, cherished by them, their customers, and her colleagues, many of whom had become close friends.

They described her as caring, funny, clever, and always smiling, noting she was especially good at looking after customers who will miss her dearly.

They added that their thoughts remain with her family and friends, noting that many of her closest friends had visited the pub in the past week, their grief plainly visible, and that Lucy had served as a unifying bond among them.

Friends of Lucy have since launched a fundraiser to support her family in giving her a fitting send-off.

The appeal described her as kind, caring, and a wonderful friend who was known for being bright, funny, and able to light up any room she entered, always leaving people smiling.

It noted that in the early hours of Saturday, following a medical emergency at the festival, she was tragically lost with her whole future ahead of her, and that she would remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Festival organisers earlier issued a statement expressing deep sadness at confirming that an attendee had tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a severe medical emergency.

They extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, stating that welfare teams, security personnel, and emergency medical staff responded immediately once the attendee became unwell.

Despite efforts by paramedics and welfare staff to provide emergency care, the individual later died in hospital.

The organisers said the safety and wellbeing of attendees remains their highest priority, and that in light of the tragedy, they decided to close the remainder of the festival to allow emergency services and local authorities to carry out their work, asking attendees to leave the site once it was safe to do so.

They confirmed they were cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation, thanked attendees, staff, and volunteers for their understanding during the difficult situation, and said that out of respect for the family's privacy, no further comments would be made at this time.
