Nearly three decades after the sudden passing of Nigeria’s former military ruler, a new claim has reignited debate over what truly happened in his final moments.

According to a former top official of Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS), General Sani Abacha, the country's former military head of state, passed away from cardiac collapse during a sexual encounter.
This is a new version of one of the most contentious political decisions in Nigeria.
Former DSS Assistant Director Dennis Amachree made the assertion while considering the circumstances surrounding Abacha's unexpected death on June 8, 1998 an incident that has been the focus of conjecture and conspiracy theories for almost thirty years.
According to Amachree, Abacha suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during an intimate encounter, dismissing long-standing claims that the former military ruler was poisoned or assassinated.
Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from November 1993 until his de@th in June 1998, presided over one of the country's most contentious military governments, with his administration marked by widespread allegations of human rights ab*ses, the detention of political opponents, and international criticism.
His sudden death at the Presidential Villa in Abuja triggered a wave of rumours at the time, including claims of poisoning involving foreign agents and mysterious circumstances surrounding his final hours, though no official investigation has ever conclusively established those allegations.
Amachree's account adds to the competing narratives that have continued to surround the former military leader's de@th, reviving public debate over one of the most enduring mysteries in Nigeria's political history.
