Imo Approves ₦25 Billion Judges’ Quarters Project, Expands Digital and Education Plans

In an attempt to provide a favorable atmosphere for judges to function in the state, Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of new quarters for judges.

Forty typical duplexes with recreational amenities will make up the quarters.

At the conclusion of Monday's State Executive Council, which was chaired by the governor, Declan Emelumba, Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, revealed this.

In addition to the judges' quarters, he said, the council allocated ₦1.9 billion to create four computer-based test centers in the Orlu zone to improve access for JAMB candidates.

Commissioner for Information, Emelumba, said ₦900 million would be released immediately to commence work at pilot centres in Bishop Shanahan Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.

He also announced that the council approved the establishment of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited to regulate and deploy smart digital billboards through a public-private partnership.

He further disclosed that Governor Uzodimma used the occasion to swear in Longers Anyanwu as the new Commissioner for Agriculture, while the council directed immediate action to curb the state's erosion challenges.

Elaborating on the establishment of the Signage Asset Management Limited, the Commissioner for Digital Economy, Chimezie Amadi, said the initiative would be financed entirely by private investors at no cost to the Imo State Government, adding that Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled infrastructure would support a modern, digitally managed signage ecosystem.

Responding after his swearing-in, Longers Anyanwu thanked the governor for finding him worthy to join the APC's winning team in the state, pledging to align with the government's programmes and make contributions that would be impactful to the people of Imo.
