Authorities in Kano have issued a warning after reports of individuals allegedly exploiting a government-backed social programme.

Members of the public have been cautioned by the Kano State Hisbah Board not to pay anyone to be included in the state's upcoming mass wedding program.
The warning was given on Wednesday in Kano by the board's Deputy Commander-General, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, in response to complaints that certain people were requesting money from potential beneficiaries while claiming to be helping them register.
Aminuddeen said the state government had fully funded the programme, with Governor Abba Yusuf approving sponsorship covering wedding attire, furniture, transportation of the furniture, and start-up capital for beneficiaries.
According to him, no official of the Hisbah Board or any government representative is authorised to collect money from anyone seeking to participate in the programme.
He urged anyone approached by individuals demanding payment to report the matter immediately to the Hisbah Board or relevant security agencies for investigation and appropriate action.
He stressed that the governor had paid for everything, adding that nobody should pay for anything since the entire programme is completely free.
