A section of the Justrite Superstore located in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State was affected by an early-morning fire outbreak.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed that the incident, which occurred at the store around Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo, Lagos, has since been brought under control by its personnel.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Controller General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, explained that the fire affected the second floor of the commercial building, specifically the section housing the store's electronics department.
She stated that upon arrival at the scene, firefighters promptly deployed equipment and carried out coordinated operations aimed at containing the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building, and protecting lives, property and the environment.
According to her, the fire has now been fully extinguished, with recovery efforts ongoing to conclude the clean-up exercise.
She noted that the fire was suspected to have been caused by an alternative power source, specifically a solar inverter system, adding that no casualties were recorded in the incident.
Visuals of the fire outbreak, circulated on social media and by the agency, showed thick smoke rising from the rooftop of the building.
