A Nigerian lady has generated mixed reactions online after expressing her views on why she believes many men are eager to get married, arguing that marriage largely benefits men by granting them access to unpaid labour and other privileges.

In a video shared on social media, she contended that many men see marriage as a way to access services they would otherwise have to pay for, including cooking, sex and childcare.

According to her, men are drawn to marriage because it offers them free labour, free meals and free sex, services she said would be too costly to pay for individually.

She argued that this is why many men choose to marry, as it allows them to enjoy these benefits without financial cost.

She also claimed that men enjoy the privilege of fatherhood primarily through marriage, asserting that a man could contribute little or nothing to a child's upbringing, yet the children would still be regarded as his simply because he is married to the mother.

The lady further argued that many women continue to bear the bulk of domestic responsibilities even in households where both partners work full-time, noting that society often assigns cooking and other chores to women by default.

She maintained that if men were required to pay for the same services they receive within marriage, many would be far less eager to get married, suggesting this is part of the reason some men strongly defend the institution.

Her comments have since sparked widespread debate online, with some social media users agreeing with aspects of her argument, while others pushed back, insisting that healthy marriages are built on mutual love, support and shared responsibility between partners.

“Men are so obsessed with marriage cos that’s the only time they get free labour, free s£x, free chef and free children. It is only in marriage that even poor men have access to free labour, things they would not be able to afford naturally”
