Media personality Toke Makinwa has opened up about a painful experience from her younger years that reshaped her approach to relationships.

Toke Makinwa, a well-known figure in the media, has revealed why she no longer purchases gifts for the men she dates, citing a tragic event from her time in college.
Makinwa revealed that the choice was influenced by a relationship she had with a man ten years her senior when she was still a student on a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, where she hosted reality star Beauty Tukura.
She recounted spending her school fees for the semester to throw him a birthday celebration, which included taking him out to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.
Where he ordered lavishly from the menu. On getting to his house afterward, however, she found another woman there a discovery that devastated her and left her scarred by the experience.
Makinwa said the betrayal fundamentally changed her attitude toward spending on the men she's involved with romantically, a stance she has maintained ever since.
