A man only escaped death by the whiskers after he was caught stealing a donkey but was left with something to remember for a lifetime.
The unnamed donkey thief was left with a damaged eye and broken head
A donkey thief nearly lost his life in the hands of angry residents of Sumbrungo a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana as he was beaten to a pulp and one of his eyes damaged before he was saved by the police.
According to reports, the suspect was on his way to Kandiga with a tricycle carrying the two donkeys when he was stopped by some residents who suspected that he had stolen them.
However, the suspected thief took to his heels when the residents stopped him. He was subsequently pursued and caught. The angry residents descended on him and gave him the beating of his life before police men came and rescued him.
He has since been taken to the Bolgatanga Municipal Police station for interrogation.
