A major shift has emerged within the legal team of the detained IPOB leader after he issued a formal directive ending a long-standing professional relationship.

Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has officially fired Ifeanyi Ejiofor, his longtime personal attorney, and instructed him to stop representing him, his family, or the organization in any way.
In a letter dated July 22, 2026, sent from the Sokoto Correctional Centre, Kanu said Ejiofor's disengagement had earlier been communicated verbally, adding that the latest correspondence serves as formal written confirmation of that decision.
Kanu also withdrew any authority previously granted to Ejiofor to act on behalf of IPOB, insisting that the lawyer no longer holds any express, implied, or ostensible mandate to represent or speak for the organisation.
Citing the IPOB Code of Conduct, Kanu said the power to appoint, suspend or dismiss principal officers rests solely with the group's leader unless expressly delegated.
Stressing that no individual, committee, or former office holder acting outside the code could validly appoint or retain legal representatives on behalf of IPOB.
He therefore declared that any authority previously claimed by Ejiofor to represent the group is no longer recognised, and directed the lawyer to stop making public statements, granting interviews, issuing statements, or publishing content online on behalf of him, his family, or IPOB.
