The national grid has collapsed more than 25 times since Bola Tinubu took office in 2023, according to a statement posted on GST Hub's online.

Additionally, electricity costs have climbed from ₦68 per kilowatt-hour to ₦225 per kilowatt-hour.

The group also criticized the implementation of the energy service band scheme, claiming that Nigerians are forced to pay far higher bills without a commensurate improvement in power delivery.

GST Hub claimed that despite paying increased bills, many homes and businesses continue to experience extended blackouts rather than receiving reliable electricity, characterizing the situation as paying "more for less."

A video clip from Tinubu's 2023 presidential campaign, in which he spoke to business executives about promises to boost the nation's power industry and enhance the supply of electricity, was included with the critique.

The group claimed that the current state of affairs runs counter to those campaign promises, claiming that millions of Nigerians already facing mounting living expenditures are under more financial strain as a result of the frequent system failures and rising electricity prices.

Since 2023, numerous national grid collapses have been documented by data gathered by independent policy organizations and media reports.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has defended recent changes to electricity tariffs as part of reforms meant to draw investment into the power industry and enhance service delivery.

Although many consumers continue to grumble about unstable supply and rising costs, government officials have continuously maintained that the current changes are vital to overcome decades of underinvestment in the electrical business and stabilize the national system.

The renewed criticism coincides with the fact that electricity is still one of the major topics influencing public opinion, with many Nigerians calling for better service delivery and a more dependable power supply in the face of rising prices and ongoing outages.

Since Tinubu swore he would give us light, he has done the exact opposite:

1. The national grid has collapsed over 25 times.
2. Electricity costs more than 3 times what it used to (jumping from ₦68/kWh to ₦225/kWh).
3. There is now tiered electricity just to scam Nigerians… pic.twitter.com/rVyrldfyNg
