A Nigerian college basketball player has been arrested in the United States following a serious allegation that has led to his suspension from the team.

Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega, a men's basketball player at Jacksonville State, has been suspended from the team and arrested on a first-degree rape charge, according to court documents and the institution.
According to court records, Adegboyega, a 21-year-old Nigerian national, was detained at the Calhoun County Jail for a bond hearing.
The jail log also indicates that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him.
According to the arrest warrant, the alleged incident occurred on Wednesday, with the document alleging that Adegboyega engaged in s£xual intercourse with the alleged victim through forcible compulsion, in violation of state law.
Jacksonville State has confirmed that Adegboyega has been suspended from the basketball team following his arrest.
Adegboyega, who has gone by the name Daniel Tobiloba during his college basketball career, had committed to Jacksonville State in May, according to his social media account.
The 7-foot centre spent the 2025-26 season at California Baptist after previously playing two seasons at South Florida.
He had originally signed with Kennesaw State in 2022 after attending Grand View Christian High School in Des Moines, Iowa, but never appeared in a game for the Owls.
Over his college career, Adegboyega has played 27 games, with five starts, averaging 0.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
The r@pe charge remains an allegation, and Adegboyega is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
