The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, has stated that he has no favourite candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The monarch made the clarification while denying reports claiming he had urged Nigerians to back President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, insisting he holds no preference for any candidate.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Prince Bashir Adefaka, the Sultan said that as a father to all, it would not be appropriate for him to support one candidate over others, whether privately or publicly.
Part of the statement read that the Sultan's media team had noted a report circulating on social media suggesting he had called on Nigerians to support President Tinubu's re-election in 2027, and that their response was simply that it would not be possible for the Sultan, as father of all, to make such a statement in any forum, public or otherwise.
The monarch described such reports as malicious and an unpatriotic attempt to draw him into partisan politics for selfish interests.
He added that the Sultan's doors remain open to anyone who approaches him, regardless of political affiliation, stressing that he has consistently shown himself to be a father to all and would continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination.
