A Nigerian-born basketball player in the United States has been charged following allegations of sexual assault at his apartment.

Daniel Adegboyega, a Nigerian basketball player based in the United States, was charged with first-degree rape by forced compulsion in Alabama after police accused him of sexually assaulting a lady in his apartment.
According to a report from WVTM 13 on Monday, which was sighted online, on Tuesday, the 21-year-old was detained by the Jacksonville Police Department in July at his apartment in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Adegboyega, who recently joined Jacksonville State University's men's basketball team for the next season, is being held at the Calhoun County Jail without bond.
According to the story, court documents reveal that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had placed an immigration hold on him.
Investigators informed the court that on July 28, the alleged victim went to Adegboyega's flat to watch a movie.
According to the story, during the visit, she allegedly texted her roommate a hidden message after Adegboyega made unwanted sexual approaches.
Following many unanswered calls and text messages, Adegboyega allegedly answered one of the roommate's calls on the woman's phone and claimed she was in the toilet.
Concerned about her safety, the roommate called the Jacksonville Police Department to request a welfare check.
Officers reportedly arrived at the residence about 2 a.m. and discovered the woman extremely upset.
The police then took statements from Adegboyega and the claimed victim and gathered evidence, including the woman's trousers, which purportedly had bloodstains.
According to the report, the woman accused Adegboyega of forcibly raping her twice that night, but he denied using force.
He was claimed to have been arrested that night and has remained in the Calhoun County Jail.
ICE agent Ty Unruh stated at a bond hearing that Adegboyega entered the United States on an F-1 student visa that expired in 2023.
According to the newspaper, Unruh stated that if Adegboyega is given bond, he will be sent to an immigration detention center in Louisiana to begin immigration processes that might lead to his removal to Nigeria.
However, Adegboyega's host father, Ryan Parlee, contested the immigration testimony, calling it incorrect.
According to Parlee, Adegboyega attended high school in Iowa for four years before graduating in 2022 without returning to Nigeria.
He said that the visa concerns arose during a family trip to Mexico in 2022 and intensified after Adegboyega transferred from the University of South Florida to UC Riverside.
Parlee additionally claimed that UC Riverside neglected to file the necessary immigration documentation prior to Adegboyega's move to Jacksonville State University this summer, causing his visa to lapse.
Adegboyega has pled not guilty to the accusation.
