Residents were thrown into panic after a fire broke out in a busy Lagos community, sending thick smoke into the sky and triggering frantic efforts to contain the blaze.

A fire incident sparked panic in the Abule-Oja district of Lagos State on Wednesday, affecting residential and commercial buildings along Abdul Street near University Road.
Video footage circulating online documented thick smoke billowing from structures in the area, prompting urgent calls for emergency services intervention.
Residents and bystanders attempted to suppress the flames using water sources as alarm spread through the neighbourhood.
As of the time of reporting, confirmation of whether fire service personnel had contained or fully extinguished the blaze remained unavailable, and the scope of property destruction had yet to be assessed.
The origin of the fire remained undetermined at the time of filing.
The incident occurred in close succession to a previous fire at the Federal Mortgage Bank headquarters in Abuja, which destroyed property valued at approximately N500 million.
