A fresh political realignment has emerged in Gombe as a party official makes a major move ahead of the next governorship contest.

Hon. Babangida Usman, the Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe Local Government Area of Gombe State, also known as Babangida Ventures, has resigned from the party and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in support of Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami's governorship ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.
Babangida announced his resignation in Gombe, stating that he had stepped down as ADC Local Government Secretary before to formally joining the PDP.
Explaining his decision to desert, he stated that he believes Professor Pantami possesses the knowledge, expertise, and leadership skills required to carry Gombe State forward.
He described the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy as the most credible and capable candidate for the 2027 governorship, expressing confidence that his administration would expedite development throughout the state.
According to him, his decision to join the PDP sprang from a desire to help Pantami achieve his governorship ambitions and reform Gombe state.
The defection is the latest in a string of political realignments in the state since Pantami's emergence as the PDP governorship candidate, with various officials and supporters from both parties proclaiming their support for his candidacy.
Professor Pantami is set to run for governor of Gombe State in 2027, representing the PDP.
