One person has been fatally injured and two others sustained wounds in a multi-vehicle collision on New Road near Coastal Road in the Jakande area of Lagos.

The incident involved an articulated Mack flat-bed trailer, a Toyota mini truck and two motorcycles.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority attributed the crash to excessive speed by the articulated trailer operator.

Preliminary investigation findings indicated that the trailer driver lost control whilst travelling at high velocity and collided with the mini truck, causing the smaller vehicle to overturn before striking one of the motorcycles.

One victim was pronounced d£ad at the scene, whilst two others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Emergency responders from the traffic authority and other agencies rescued the injured parties and transported them to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Traffic management officials, conducting routine patrol operations along the Coastal Road corridor, immediately secured the accident location, managed traffic flow and coordinated rescue efforts.

Relevant security agencies were notified of the incident, and a recovery vehicle was dispatched to remove the wrecked mini truck from the roadway, facilitating prompt restoration of normal traffic flow along the corridor.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority General Manager attributed the fatality to persistent non-compliance with traffic regulations, particularly excessive speed.

He appealed to drivers, especially operators of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution, maintain vigilance and adhere strictly to prescribed speed restrictions at all times.

The General Manager cautioned that reckless driving continues to represent a principal factor in fatal road collisions across Lagos and urged motorists to abandon dangerous driving practices and adopt safe operational habits.

He underscored that collective accountability and rigid adherence to road safety standards remain essential to establishing a safer, more orderly and accident-free transportation system throughout the state.
